Michael “The” O’Rahilly, Founding Member of the Irish Volunteers

#OnThisDay 1875 Michael “The” O’Rahilly, founding member & Director of Arms of the Irish Volunteers, was born in Kerry. O’Rahilly was opposed to the Rising but said “I’ve helped to wind up the clock, I might as well hear it strike!” He died during the fighting.

Marine Maurice O’Callaghan from Dublin KIA in Vietnam 1967

#OnThisDay 1967 PFC Maurice O’Callaghan from Dublin was killed in action in the Que Son Valley in Vietnam. O’Callaghan had joined the @usmarines & graduated in Aug 1966. More Marines died there than were lost at Hue, Khe Sanh or Con Thien. He was 20 years old.
