Madeleine ffrench-Mullen was a member of the ICA. She organised a protest at King George V’s visit to Ireland in 1911. During the Rising, she treated the wounded, including sniper Margaret Skinnider. Madeleine was secretary of St. Ultan’s Hosp. for over two decades.

Dr Kathleen Lynn, from Mayo, was Chief Medical Officer for the ICA during the Easter Rising & carried the Plough and the Stars flag to the GPO. Lynn & life partner Madeleine ffrench-Mullen established St. Ultan’s Hospital which championed the BCG vaccine against TB.
RIC Disbandment Parade Phoenix Park, Dublin 1922
#OnThisDay 1922 The RIC had its final parade in the Phoenix Park although it’s not until 30 August when the force was officially disbanded. Some joined the RUC, others the Garda Síochána, some go further & serve in Palestine & other parts of the British Empire.
16th (Irish) Division ‘Ceased to Exist’ 1918
#OnThisDay 1918 The 16th (Irish) Division was relieved &taken off the front line during the German Spring Offensive. It had suffered 7,149 casualties, 1000 dead. An officer with the 16th Div wrote;
“The division has ceased to exist. Wiped off the map”.
OC Dublin Brigade Dick McKee Born 1893
#OnThisDay 1893 Dick McKee, OC of Dublin Brigade was born in Dublin. McKee fought in the Rising at Jacob’s Factory. During the WoI, McKee helped set up Collins’s Squad. On Bloody Sunday, McKee was tortured and murdered in Dublin Castle by Auxiliaries ‘while trying to escape’.
