#OnThisDay 1916 Cathal Brugha, second in command of the South Dublin Union garrison was badly wounded in an attack & shot 25 times, 9 serious wounds. It was thought he would not survive his wounds, yet he still fired on British troops & sang “God Save Ireland”.

Wexford Volunteers Take Enniscorthy Town Hall 1916
#OnThisDay 1916 Over 100 Volunteers captured the town hall in Enniscorthy & surrounded the RIC barracks. Some shots are fired but it becomes an almost bloodless standoff. Unlike in Dublin, locals supported the Vols. They were the last garrison to surrender.
James Connolly Wounded Twice 1916
#OnThisDay 1916 James Connolly, signatory of the Irish Proclamation & Commandant of the Dublin Brigade, was shot twice, once in the arm & in the ankle. The latter wound resulted in him giving up his active role & him being executed in a chair in Kilmainham.

Molly Childers (left) was an Irish nationalist born in Boston. Molly helped smuggle over 1500 rifles for the Irish Volunteers from her yacht Asgard, that she received as a wedding present. She worked as a propagandist artist for the IRA during the Civil War

Rose MacNamara was Vice- Commandant of the Cumann na mBan detachment in the Marrowbone Lane garrison during Easter Week. When the garrison surrendered, Rose & the women were told to leave but they demanded to be arrested & they sang all the way to Richmond Barracks.
