I have my B.A. in History, my M.A. in Military History and Strategic Studies,a Post Qualification Diploma in History and I've been teaching History for five years now. IRA Volunteers James Looby & William Delaney Killed by Crown Forces 1920

#OnThisDay 1920 IRA Vols James Looby & William Delaney were shot by British forces while tied to a gun carriage. They were arrested on the 17th in Cashel by RIC but forcibly removed by the soldiers to Tipperary barracks, tortured & shot on the way back.

Rathcormac Massacre, The Tithe War 1834

#OnThisDay 1834 Between nine and twenty poor farmers were shot dead in Rathcormac, Cork by British Army soldiers collecting tithes during the Tithe War. This money were to be paid to the Church of Ireland of which the Roman Catholic tenants were not members.

Richard Mulcahy Passed Away 1971

#OnThisDay 1971 General Richard Mulcahy passed away. Mulcahy was in the IRB, fought in the Easter Rising, was IRA Commander-in-Chief during War of Independence, Commander of Free-State Army in Civil War, Head of Fine Gael & held several ministerial positions .

Irish Peacekeepers at The Battle of the Tunnel, Congo 1961

#OnThisDay 1961 Irish UN Peacekeepers take part in the Battle of the Tunnel, a communications line, in Elizabethville, Congo. They lost 3 men but achieved their objective. 14 Distinguished Service medals were awarded in Ireland’s first offensive mission abroad.

Kilkenny Man at the Boston Tea Party 1773

#OnThisDay 1773 The Boston Tea Party took place. Roughly 116 men, members of the Sons of Liberty, threw 342 crates of tea into Boston harbour in an act of Defiance to the British Rule. Among them was Kilkenny born Thomas White who had only just moved to Boston.
