Irish Peacekeepers at The Battle of the Tunnel, Congo 1961

#OnThisDay 1961 Irish UN Peacekeepers take part in the Battle of the Tunnel, a communications line, in Elizabethville, Congo. They lost 3 men but achieved their objective. 14 Distinguished Service medals were awarded in Ireland’s first offensive mission abroad.
