Lieutenant Edward P. Doherty captor of John Wilkes Booth 1865

#OnThisDay 1865 Abraham Lincoln’s assassin John Wilkes Booth was shot & killed by a US Army detachment led by Lieutenant Edward P. Doherty, whose parents were from Sligo. Doherty was promoted to Captain & rewarded over $5000. His tombstone records the capture.
