#OnThisDay 1921 Dublin IRA attack & set fire to Custom House as De Valera required a show of force. It is a military failure as the IRA, were hugely outnumbered & outgunned. 5 killed & 80 arrested. Four civilians are also killed.

#OnThisDay 1798 In Wicklow, 24 United Irishmen prisoners shot in the ball alley at Carnew & 35 suspected U.I. prisoners shot on Dunlavin Green by Yeomanry in response to the rebellion outbreak. These executions cause rebels to mobilise quickly in Wexford. #Ireland #History

#Onthisday 1315 Edward Bruce landed at the head of an army of 6,000 at Larne & is pronounced King of Ireland. Bruce could trace his family back to Aoife & Dermot McMurrogh. War would rage in Ireland for three years in attempt to oust the English.
