I have my B.A. in History, my M.A. in Military History and Strategic Studies,a Post Qualification Diploma in History and I've been teaching History for five years now. I wanted to create a podcast that examines, in great detail, major Irish battles and battles allover the world in various wars that Irish people played a significant part in. Hope you enjoy.

Two Irishmen KIA in Korean War 1951

#OnThisDay 1951 Two Irishmen were Killed in Action during combat at Hoengsong in the Korean War. Corporal Michael Gannon (Left) from Achill Island, Mayo Pfc Michael Thomas King (Right) from Elphin, Roscommon. Both were buried in their respective parishes.

The Weaver Street Bombing 1922

#OnThisDay 1922 A bomb was thrown into a group of children playing on a lamp post swing on (Catholic) Weaver St. Belfast, killing six & horrifically maiming more. Ulster Special Constables were seen directing the bombers to the street just before the attack.

Death of Eugene Esmonde VC, 1942

#OnThisDay 1942 Lt-Cmdr Eugene Esmonde, from Tipperary, led six planes in an attack, with little chance of success, against the well defended German ships Scharnhorst, Gneisenau & Prinz Eugen. All 6 planes were shot down & Esmonde received a posthumous VC.

Christopher ‘Kit’ Conway Killed in Spanish Civil War 1937

#OnThisDay 1937 Christopher ‘Kit’ Conway was killed in action at the Battle of Jarama during the Spanish Civil War. Conway fought during the WoI & the Civil War, before signing up to the International Brigade to fight Franco’s Nationalist forces in Spain.

Kay McNulty, mother of modern-day computer programming, Born in Donegal 1921

#Onthisday 1921 Kay McNulty, the mother of modern-day computer programming was born in Donegal. McNulty’s family moved to the US where she got a degree in Mathematics which she used to compute artillery ballistic trajectories for the US Army during #WW2.
