Hi, I'm David, I'm from Ireland. I am an avid fan of history. I have my B.A. in History, my M.A. in Military History and Strategic Studies,a Post Qualification Diploma in History and I've been teaching History for five years now. Ex IRA- Intelligence Officer Assassinated by IRA 1921

#OnThisDay 1921 Vincent Fovargue, an ex-IRA intelligence officer was found dead on a golf course in England, executed by the IRA (ex-WW1 soldiers Reginald Dunne (Left) & Joe O’Sullivan) for being a British spy. They would also killed Sir Henry Wilson in 1922.

IRA Burn 100s of RIC Barracks and Tax Offices 1920

#OnThisDay 1920 The IRA burn down more than 300 evacuated RIC barracks in rural & isolated places around Ireland. They also burn down almost 100 income tax offices. This was the largest single organised mobilisation of Volunteers during the War of Independence.

Michael Collins Charged in Longford & Imprisoned in Sligo Gaol 1918

#OnThisDay 1918 Michael Collins was charged for making a seditious speech in Longford &was detained in Sligo Gaol for three weeks. He called the trial a “farce” & “I do not enter into bail with blackguards &tyrants”. He later paid the £40 bail & went on the run.

Formation of Cumann na mBan 1914

#OnThisDay 1914 Cumann na mBan was established in Wynn’s Hotel, Dublin. Their chief aims were to:

1: Advance the cause of Irish liberty

2:Organise Irish women in the furtherance of that objective

The role they played was vital in achieving Irish independence.

The Arnon Street Murders Belfast 1922

April 1, 2021 theirishatwar

#OnThisDay 1922 Six civilians were murdered by the RIC in Belfast after a constable was shot dead. Ex-sailor Joe Walsh’s head was smashed in with a sledgehammer & his 7 y/o son shot dead (pic). William Spallen (70) who’d buried his wife that day was shot dead.
