#OnThisDay 1916 Sir Roger Casement landed at Banna Strand, Kerry via the German submarine U-19. Suffering from an illness, Casement was too weak to travel & was arrested within a few hours at McKenna Fort. His plans to cancel or to arm the Rising had failed.

Det. Const. Laurence Dalton Shot Dead by Squad 1920
#OnThisDay 1920 Detective Constable Laurence Dalton was shot & mortally wounded by members of Collins’s Squad in Broadstone, Phibsboro. Dalton had recently moved to the DMP’s “G” Division and was suspected of identifying & arresting several IRB men.
George Rowland Patrick Roupell VC, CB
#OnThisDay 1915 Lt. George Roupell, from Tipperary, was company commander when he was hit by enemy artillery. Wounded several times, Roupell stayed at his post, repelled an attack, returned to HQ & brought back reinforcements. For this he got the Victoria Cross.
