Hi, I'm David, I'm from Ireland. I am an avid fan of history. I have my B.A. in History, my M.A. in Military History and Strategic Studies,a Post Qualification Diploma in History and I've been teaching History for five years now. Michael Collins, the last plenipotentiary to arrive in London for the Anglo-Irish Treaty 1921

#OnThisDay 1921 Michael Collins was the last of the plenipotentiaries to arrive in London to negotiate the Anglo-Irish Treaty. Collins took up residence at 15 Cadogan Gardens and had with him members of the Squad as a personal bodyguard.

RMS Leinster sank 1918. The largest loss of life in the Irish Sea.

#OnThisDay 1918 The RMS Leinster was sank an hour after leaving Dún Laoghaire when she was torpedoed by German sub UB-123. Roughly 564 people died, including many soldiers returning from leave, making it the single biggest loss of life in the Irish Sea. #Ireland #History #WW1

Albert Cashier, American Civil War Veteran passed away 1915

#OnThisDay 1915 Albert Cashier, an American Civil War veteran from Louth passed away. Albert served in the 95th Illinois Regiment, fought in major battles, was captured, escaped & honourably discharged. Albert was born a female called Jennie Irene Hodgers. Albert maintained this male lifestyle till his death, despite his secret being found when in hospital.

Che Guevara was executed today 1967

#OnThisDay 1967 Che Guevara was executed in Bolivia. Guevara was a physician, diplomat & revolutionary in whose “veins flowed the blood of the Irish rebels”, so said his father. Che’s patrilineal ancestor Patrick Lynch, moved to South America from from Galway.

Billy McFadzean VC born today 1895

#OnThisDay 1895 William “Billy” McFadzean was born in Armagh. Billy was awarded the Victory Cross posthumously in the first days of the Somme 1916 for saving his comrades lives when he jumped on a box of grenades that had fallen into a trench with the pins detached. Billy’s father accepted the award in his stead.
