I have my B.A. in History, my M.A. in Military History and Strategic Studies,a Post Qualification Diploma in History and I've been teaching History for five years now. I wanted to create a podcast that examines, in great detail, major Irish battles and battles allover the world in various wars that Irish people played a significant part in. Hope you enjoy.

The Women of 1798

“No aspect of the 1798 Rebellion has been so neglected as that of the women’s role in the events of that year.”

This is common with most conflicts & its accompanying art. So for the upcoming #MnáMondays posts, I may use paintings from the French Revolution as it includes women.

Lt Lord Hugh Tristam de la Poer Beresford 1941

#OnThisDay 1941 Lt Lord Hugh Tristam de la Poer Beresford, from Waterford, died when the ship he was aboard, the HMS Kelly (captained by Louis Mountbatten) was bombed & sunk by the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Crete. He is buried in El Alamein, Egypt.

The Disapperance of Lt Seymour Livingston Vincent, Cork 1921

#OnThisDay 1921 Lt Seymour Livingston Vincent disappeared in Cork & was never seen again. In 1924, the IRA sent a letter to the British Gov informing them that a British officer was buried in Lenihan’s Bog, Glenville, Cork. Later, he was reinterred in a church.

The 1798 Rebellion Begins

#OnThisDay 1798 The 1798 Rebellion began with attacks on mail coaches by United Irishmen. Its aim was to establish an independent, sovereign, Irish republic. Wolfe Tone wanted, ‘to unite Catholic, Protestant & Dissenter under the common name of Irishman’.

Eva Gore-Booth Born Sligo 1870

#OnThisDay 1870 Irish poet, artist & suffragist Eva Gore-Booth was born in @LissadellHouse Sligo. Eva campaigned in abolishing the death penalty & helped overturn her sister, Constance Markiewicz’s sentence to life imprisonment after the Easter Rising.
