Hi, I'm David, I'm from Ireland. I am an avid fan of history. I have my B.A. in History, my M.A. in Military History and Strategic Studies,a Post Qualification Diploma in History and I've been teaching History for five years now. I wanted to create a podcast that examines, in great detail, major Irish battles and battles allover the world in various wars that Irish people played a significant part in. Hope you enjoy.

Fr. John Bannon Confederate Chaplain born 1829

#OnThisDay 1829 Fr John Bannon was born in Rooskey, Roscommon. Fr. Bannon moved to St. Louis, Missouri & joined the Confederate Army at the start of the Civil War. Captured & released in 1863 he returned to Ireland to discourage recruitment in to the Union army.

IRA Captain Timothy Madigan shot dead by Black and Tans at Christmas 1920

#OnThisDay 1920 Captain Timothy Madigan, an IRA Volunteer was shot dead by the Black & Tans. He had been on the run for some time and decided to visit his home at Clashganniff House, Shanagolden, Limerick over the Christmas. He was 23 years old. #Ireland #History

Constance Markievicz and 73 Sinn Féin Politicians became elected members of the UK House of Commons 1918

#OnThisDay 1918 (28th December) Following the results of the recent election, all 73 Sinn Féin candidates became elected Members of Parliament including the first woman ever to be elected to the British House of Commons, Constance Markievicz. They did not take their seats.

Reverend William Corby, Irish Brigade Chaplain & University of Notre Dame President passed away 1897

#OnThisDay 1897 (28th Dec) Reverend William Corby passed away. Corby was one of the chaplains of the Irish Brigade & is perhaps best known for giving general absolution to the men before the Battle of Gettysburg. He was also the President of @NotreDame University twice.

Dan Breen, Irish Revolutionary passes away 1969

#OnThisDay 1969 Dan Breen, one of the most famous revolutionaries during the War of Independence, passed away. Breen was at Soloheadbeg & soon had a price of £10,000 on his head after his many daring actions during the war. 10,000 people attended his funeral.
