The First Black and Tans are Recruited 1920

#OnThisDay 1920 The first Black and Tans were recruited into the RIC in England. 20% of them were Irish. They were not the ‘jailbirds and down-and-outs’ as oft quoted as those with a criminal record could not apply. That said, they were still a nasty bunch.
