#OnThisDay 1941 Eight bombs fell from a Luftwaffe plane over Knockroe, near Borris, Carlow. One bomb destroyed the Shannon home resulting in the deaths of two sisters, Mary Ellen (40) & Bridget (38), along with their niece Kathleen Shannon (16).
