#OnThisDay 1921 Michael Collins proposed to Catherine (Kitty) Kiernan in the Grand Hotel in Greystones. Collins later announced his engagement in the Dáil, but it was never to be. He was shot dead 10 months later in Cork. Kitty married Felix Cronin, the QuarterMaster General of the Irish army in 1927. They named one of their sons Michael Collins Cronin in his honour.
