#OnThisDay 1920 William Hegarty Section Commander 1st Cork Brigade, IRA was shot dead in Ballymakeera. The British Army left armed troops in a hidden compartment in a supposed abandoned truck & when Hegarty neared the truck for inspection, with the intention to strip and burn it, he was shot & killed.
