#OnThisDay 1922 John Monks was recorded by the National Graves Association as the first Republican casualty of the Irish Civil War when he was shot at Red Cow, Clondalkin. Monks was with F Company, 4th Battalion, Dublin Brigade Anti-Treaty IRA. He is buried in Bluebell Cemetery. He was 21 and lived on Nash St., Inchicore.
