Donald Garland V.C. shot down over Belgium 1940

#OnThisDay 1940 Flying Officer Donald Garland from Ballinacor, Wicklow was killed when his plane was shot down while on a mission to destroy two bridges to slow the German advance in Belgium. For this he was awarded the Victoria Cross. He was 21.
