#OnThisDay 1916 British soldiers surround all rebel positions. As artillery pounds Sackville (O’Connell) Street, the GPO catches fire. Dublin Fire Brigade leave the area due to intense gun battles in the area. At 8:40pm Pearse orders a complete evacuation.
