The Irish Guards were formed today 1900

#OnThisDay 1900 The Irish Guards were formed by Queen Victoria in recognition of the many acts of courage & bravery performed by Irish regiments during the Second Boer War. 200 Irishmen from the Grenadier Guards made up the nucleus. Colour Sgt Conroy from the Munster Fusiliers was Serial No.1. Their mascot is an Irish Wolfhound, the first being called Brian Boru.
