#OnThisDay 1872 Irish republican politician Mary MacSwiney was born. MacSwiney was educated in @Cambridge_Uni, founded Cumann na mBan Cork branch, arrested after the Easter Rising, vehemently opposed the Treaty, went on hunger strike in prison & was Vice President of Sinn Fein in 1927. Lord Mayor of Cork, Terence MacSwiney who died on Hunger Strike during the War of Independence was her brother.
