#OnThisDay 1921 Michael Kilroy (Back left) & men of the Mayo IRA ambushed an RIC bicycle patrol (between Westport & Leenaun), mortally wounding Sgt J. Coughlan. Three other constables, Love, Maguire & Creedon were also wounded in the attack.
