Royal Irish Regiment Report 16/9/14

All my men are dug in but there is no point in my position safe from bombardment which has been proceeding. I request immediate artillery support in order to put this hostile battery out of action, which has been shelling us for 3 days at a range of 1900 yards. I have had many casualties. I can continue to stay here with men hidden in holes but if similar bombardment proceeds combine with infantry attack my position will be untenable.
