#OnThisDay 1919 The IRA led by Liam Lynch ambushed 15 British Army soldiers of the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry on their way to mass in Wesleyan Church, Fermoy, Cork. Pvt William Jones was killed. This was the first major attack on the British Army by the IRA during the war. The 20 IRA ambushers got away with 15 rifles. The next day the KSLI rampaged in Fermoy wrecking 50-60 shops causing £1000s of damage. The regiment was soon replaced by the Buffs.

Hi,
I'm David, I'm from Ireland. I am an avid fan of history. I have my B.A. in History, my M.A. in Military History and Strategic Studies,a Post Qualification Diploma in History and I've been teaching History for five years now.
I wanted to create a podcast that examines, in great detail, major Irish battles and battles allover the world in various wars that Irish people played a significant part in.
Hope you enjoy.
