1690 The Siege of Limerick begins

#OnThisDay 1690 William of Orange & 26,000 men begin the siege of Limerick despite his lack of siege artillery. The 25,000 Jacobite defenders in the city are poorly armed. French General Lauzun said Limerick “could be taken with roast apples” & leaves the city. #Ireland #History
