#OnThisDay 1932 The Army Comrades Association, better known as ‘The Blueshirts’ was formed. It was a quasi-fascist paramilitary group that acted as bodyguard for Cumann na nGaedheal from attacks by the IRA. It later merged with other parties to form Fine Gael.

#OnThisDay 1921 Auxiliaries Captain King, captured 2 IRA men& shot dead Patrick Kennedy & James Murphy (died 11 Feb) & dumped their bodies in a Drumcondra park. King (also involved in the killing of McKee&Clancy on Bloody Sunday)was tried & acquitted of murder.

#OnThisDay 1921 Unidentified Crown Forces tortured and executed Robert Browne in Knockalougha Bog, Kerry. Browne was a grocer, a member of Kerry 2 Brigade who had been on the run. His brother was killed in the Gortnalea RIC Barracks attack in 1918.

#OnThisDay 1921 The IRA executed Patrick Falsey in Cooraclare, Clare. Falsey (24)had filled in a trench across a road that was dug to hinder Crown Forces so he could drive his ass & cart home. After some public pressure, his father received £700 in compensation.
Second Lieutenant Charles Martin Armstrong KIA 1917
#OnThisDay 1917 Second Lt. Charles Armstrong from Finglas, was KIA. Armstrong was an undergrad at @tcddublin but joined ‘The Pals’ Dublin Fusiliers, fought at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli & then transferred to France, where he was killed.He is buried at Ancre.
