#OnThisDay 1798 United Irishmen rebels ambush & kill 70-80 British militia at Three Rocks in Wexford taking 20 prisoner & 2 howitzers. They then take Wexford Town. The garrison in Wexford town withdraw to Duncannon, looting& pillaging on their way. #Ireland #History
#OnThisDay 1798 General James Duff & his army killed over 350 surrendered & unarmed rebels at Gibbeth Rath in the Curragh. The rebels had received amnesty from General Lake & were waiting for him to take their surrender. Duff was not reprimanded. #Ireland #History
#OnThisDay 1920 The IRA attacked and burned much of Kilmallock RIC barracks in Limerick.
Volunteer Liam Scully (Left) from Kerry, was shot in the neck & died soon after.
Two RIC men; Kane & Norton were also killed in the attack.
Pic (right) shows the RIC survivors of the attack. They held out against overwhelming numbers for 6-7 hours before the IRA called off the attack. All RIC present were promoted.
