#OnThisDay 1917 Eamon De Valera was released from Pentonville Prison. He avoided execution after the Easter Rising because of his American birth. He was the most senior remaining leader of the Rising who then started a 50 year political career.

Assassination of Capt. Percival Lea-Wilson by The Squad 1920
#OnThisDay 1920 Capt. Percival Lea-Wilson RIC District Inspector was assassinated by Michael Collins’ Squad in Gorey, Wexford. Some say Wilson was shot because he was the officer who strip searched Tom Clarke after the Rebel surrender after Easter 1916. #Ireland #History
