#OnThisDay 1751 Edward Marcus Despard was born in Laois. Despard was in the British Army, fought in America, befriended Horatio Nelson & a colonial official in Honduras. He was executed for high treason (despite evidence) for conspiring to kill King George III. #Ireland #History

#OnThisDay 1921 The IRA ambushed a British convoy of three lorries & an armoured car at Clonbanin, Cork. Using overwhelming numbers & a stolen machine gun, they kill Brigadier General HR Cummings (right) & 3 others including the two other officers in the photo.


#OnThisDay 1770 The Boston Massacre took place when British soldiers fired into a crowd, resulting in the deaths of five people including Irish man Patrick Carr. Carr died several days later but did not have malice towards the British for his wound.
