The Crossbarry Ambush 1921

#OnThisDay 1921 Tom Barry & the West Cork IRA was encircled & outnumbered 10 to 1 by the British army at Crossbarry. With their back against the wall, Tom Barry ambushed a small British patrol, then fought their way out of the trap, killing 10 & losing 4 men.

Dublin IRA’s largest haul of weapons after raid on Collinstown Aerodrome 1919

#OnThisDay 1919 Dublin IRA, led by Patrick Holahan, raid Collinstown Aerodrome (now @dublinairport ) & take 75 rifles, 72 bayonets & 4000 rounds of ammo. This was the IRA’s most successful raid, which involved sleeping sentries, getaway cars, British army uniforms, drugging dogs & more. Holahan had just started work there a few weeks previous and knew the inner workings of the place.
