#OnThisDay 1921 East Limerick ASU were caught unaware by a military convoy in Lackelly. The IRA scout told them of the approaching convoy too late & four Volunteers were killed in the ensuing shootout. The Volunteers bodies were left where they fell for 2 days.

Easter Rising Leader Thomas Kent Arrested in Cork 1916
#OnThisDay 1916 Thomas Kent was arrested after a shootout with the RIC at his home in Cork. The RIC had arrest warrants for Kent & his brothers. Constable Rowe was killed & two of Kent’s brothers were wounded, one fatally. Thomas was later sentenced & executed.
Death of Two Volunteers, Tipperary 1921
#OnThisDay 1921 Sean Duffy & Patrick Maloney were killed by the RIC in Gortdrum, Tipperary. Both men were on the run since they lost their jobs because of British reprisals burning down their stores. Maloney was in IV officer uniform & made for an easy target.
Enniscorthy Volunteers Surrender 1916
#OnThisDay 1916 The Enniscorthy garrison lay down its’ arms having received confirmation of Pearse’s surrender order. They had amassed 1,000 Volunteers but not much fighting took place. Seizing the town was the most significant rebel action outside of Dublin.
The Normans Arrive in Bannow Bay, Wexford 11169
#OnThisDay 1169 The Normans first landed on Bannow Bay, Wexford. This contingent was led by Robert FitzStephen to reinstate Dermot MacMurrogh to his Leinster kingdom. They quickly took Wexford &when reinforcements came, Waterford & Dublin. The rest is history.
