I have my B.A. in History, my M.A. in Military History and Strategic Studies,a Post Qualification Diploma in History and I've been teaching History for five years now. The Battle of Ballynahinch 1798

#OnThisDay 1798 The Ulster United Irishmen rebels were defeated at the Battle of Ballynahinch by British forces. The Crown troops razed Ballynahinch & killed many fleeing the town, most famously Betsy Gray. Rebel leader Munro was captured & hanged. #Ireland #History

38th Irish Division meet the Pope 1944

#OnThisDay 1944 Members of the 38th (Irish) Division were invited to the Vatican for a meeting with Pope Pius XII. It was attended by both Catholics& Protestant soldiers. Pic below, 38th Band parade in St. Peter’s Basilica.

The Battle of Machias 1775

#OnThisDay 1775 Jeremiah O’Brien, his five brothers (whose father was from Ireland)& local militia storm & captured the British ship HMS Margaretta at the Battle of Machias, Maine. This was the first naval engagement of the American Revolutionary War. #Ireland #History #Navy

1864 The Battle of Trevilian Station

#OnThisDay 1864 One of the largest cavalry battles of the American Civil War raged at Trevilian Station VA.Union forces were led by Fightin’ Phil Sheridan whose parents were from Cavan.The Union were tactically defeated but strategically reached their objective #Ireland #History
