Hi, I'm David, I'm from Ireland. I am an avid fan of history. I have my B.A. in History, my M.A. in Military History and Strategic Studies,a Post Qualification Diploma in History and I've been teaching History for five years now. I wanted to create a podcast that examines, in great detail, major Irish battles and battles allover the world in various wars that Irish people played a significant part in. Hope you enjoy.

Operation Banner 1969

#OnThisDay 1969 The British Army was deployed for the first time in Northern Ireland. They were first deployed in Derry as part of Operation Banner. Operation Banner officially ended in 2007. It cannot go back to this.

1914 2nd Batt Royal Irish Regiment lands in Boulogne, France to fight in WW1

#OnThisDay 1914 Second Battalion Royal Irish Regiment land in Boulogne. Three months later 2nd Batt is almost completely wiped out near Le Pilly during the Battle of La Bassée. Most of who survive are taken prisoner. #Ireland #History #WW1

The Battle of Yellow Ford 1598

#OnThisDay 1598 The army of Hugh O’Neill & Hugh O’Donnell attack & rout Crown forces at the Battle of Yellow Ford. The Irish killed roughly 2000, including Marshal Bagenal, the head of the English army & the rest of the Crown army fled back to Armagh. #Ireland #History

1942 Bernard Montgomery takes Command of the British Eight Army

#OnThisDay 1942 Bernard Montgomery lands in North Africa & immediately takes command of British Eight Army.
“I have cancelled the plan for withdrawal. If we are attacked, then there will be no retreat.”
Monty’s paternal line was from Moville, Donegal.

1649 Oliver Cromwell sets sail for Ireland

#OnThisDay 1649 Oliver Cromwell sets sail from Milford Haven at the head of 35 ships to bring death and destruction to Ireland. He will land in Dublin on the 15th & immediately march on Drogheda, then Wexford slaughtering both towns’ inhabitants.
