Hi, I'm David, I'm from Ireland. I am an avid fan of history. I have my B.A. in History, my M.A. in Military History and Strategic Studies,a Post Qualification Diploma in History and I've been teaching History for five years now. I wanted to create a podcast that examines, in great detail, major Irish battles and battles allover the world in various wars that Irish people played a significant part in. Hope you enjoy.

Constable Michael Downing DMP shot in Dublin 1919

#OnThisDay 1919 Constable Michael Downing of G Division Dublin Metropolitan Police was shot & killed on High Street by Christchurch Cathedral. Downing was 23, from Cork & a good handball player. A reward of £5000 went out for any information about his killer.

Corporal John Walsh Medal of Honor 1864

#Onthisday 1864 Corporal John Walsh, from Tipperary, was awarded the Medal of Honor for for extraordinary heroism while serving with 5th New York Cavalry, in action at Cedar Creek, Virginia. Corporal Walsh recaptured the flag of the 15th New Jersey Infantry.

The British Surrender at Yorktown 1781

#OnThisDay 1781 The British surrendered at Yorktown. General Charles O’Hara, the illegitimate son of Irishman second Baron Tyrawley actually surrendered as Cornwallis was too sick do it. O’Hara surrendered to both Washington & (later) Napoleon.

Mid-Clare IRA attack Ruan RIC Barracks in Clare 1920

#OnThisDay 1920 Mid-Clare IRA attack the Ruan RIC barracks in their bare feet so as not to alert local dogs. They attacked in the morning while the guards were asleep & one had left for milk. One RIC man was killed. A large cache of guns & ammo was captured. #Ireland #History

The United Irishmen have their first public meeting in Belfast 1791

#OnThisDay 1791 United Irishmen have their first public meeting& adopt new resolutions. Originally a parliamentarian organisation hoping to unite all Irishmen regardless of creed, they became republican force to get Britain out of Ireland & become a republic.
