Hi, I'm David, I'm from Ireland. I am an avid fan of history. I have my B.A. in History, my M.A. in Military History and Strategic Studies,a Post Qualification Diploma in History and I've been teaching History for five years now. I wanted to create a podcast that examines, in great detail, major Irish battles and battles allover the world in various wars that Irish people played a significant part in. Hope you enjoy.

Tipperary IRA Brigade ambush RIC patrol at Kilcommon Cross 1920

#OnThisDay 1920 20 members of the Tipperary IRA ambushed a patrol of RIC including some Black and Tans at Kilcommon Cross. They killed 4 & wounded 3 but their main target, a sergeant named Bray managed to evade detection by hiding in a house till the IRA left.

Lance Corporal Meehan RIR from Tipperary, KIA near Ypres 1916

#OnThisDay 1916 Corporal William Meehan, Royal Irish Regiment, from near Cashel, Tipperary was killed in action. His position in Cooker Farm near Ypres was shelled by German troops killing Meehan & wounding 9 others. He was 32 and married.

Rev. Canon Magner of Dunmanway shot dead by Auxiliary. “Guilty but insane”, walks free two years later

#OnThisDay 1920 Rev. Canon Magner PP of Dunmanway Cork was shot dead by a British Auxiliary called Harte for not tolling his church bells on Armistice Day. Harte was found guilty of murder but declared insane at the time of the shooting. By 1923 he was free. #Ireland #History

First Medal of Honor Recipient, Roscommon man Bernard J.D. Irwin passes away 1917

#OnThisDay 1917 Brigadier General Surgeon Bernard J.D. Irwin died. Irwin was born in Roscommon but emigrated to America. Irwin was awarded the first (chronologically) Medal of Honor for his actions rescuing a unit, besieged by Apache in Arizona in 1861. #Ireland #History

George Edward Nurse, from Enniskillen wins Victoria Cross at Battle of Colenso 1899

#OnThisDay 1899 George Edward Nurse VC, from Enniskillen was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions during the Battle of Colenso, in the Boer war. He assisted some officers in retrieving isolated guns under intense enemy fire & brought them back into action.
