Hi, I'm David, I'm from Ireland. I am an avid fan of history. I have my B.A. in History, my M.A. in Military History and Strategic Studies,a Post Qualification Diploma in History and I've been teaching History for five years now. William ‘Wild Bill’ Donovan, MOH, Head of OSS & CIA passed away 1959

#OnThisDay 1959 William ‘Wild Bill’ Donovan passed away. Donovan was a lawyer, served with the New York 69th in WW1, was awarded the Medal of Honor, was head of OSS during WW2, helped Nazi prosecutions at the Nuremberg Trials & was founding father of the CIA.

West Cork IRA save life of enemy soldiers out of respect for their Colonel 1921

#OnThisDay 1921 Members of the Third West Cork Brigade (not in pic) captured two soldiers from the King’s Liverpool Regiment in Skibbereen after a failed attack but released them later out of respect for Colonel Hudson who they deemed a decent soldier. #Ireland #History

Second Lt. Charles Armstrong from Finglas KIA 1917

#OnThisDay 1917 Second Lt. Charles Armstrong from Finglas, was killed by a sniper while making his way to the front line. Armstrong was an undergrad at

@tcddublin but joined the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, fought at Gallipoli & then France, where he was KIA.

Four IRA men drowned in storm in Roundstone, Galway 1921

#OnThisDay 1921 Four IRA men were drowned when their small boat was caught in a storm as they sailed from Moynis to Roundstone in Galway. They were intending to purchase arms. The dead are:

Lt. Thomas JC Murdoch KIA in trench 1916

#OnThisDay 1916 Lt. Thomas JC Murdoch from Dunmurray, Co. Antrim was killed in action in France. Murdoch was killed instantly with 5 others of his regiment (24th Manchester Reg.) when a German mortar landed amongst them in the trench. He was 20 years old.
