Hi, I'm David, I'm from Ireland. I am an avid fan of history. I have my B.A. in History, my M.A. in Military History and Strategic Studies,a Post Qualification Diploma in History and I've been teaching History for five years now. The Waterfall Kidnappings, Cork 1920

#OnThisDay 1920 Lt. Spaulding Watts & two other British officers were taken off a train at Waterfall, Cork & executed by the IRA. They were taught to be intelligence officers as they were not in full uniform. The whereabouts of their remains are uncertain.

Willie Pearse Born in Dublin 1881

#OnThisDay 1881 Willie Pearse was born in Dublin. An artist & a teacher Willie fought in the GPO during the Easter Rising. Though only a Captain & had no hand in planning the Rising, Willie was singled out for execution for being Patrick Pearse’s brother.

Fr Michael Griffin Shot Dead by Auxiliaries, Galway 1920

#OnThisDay 1920 Fr Michael Griffith was taken to Lenaboy Castle in Galway to be questioned by Auxiliaries. After an interrogation, Fr. Griffith was shot in the head and his body dumped in an unmarked grave in Barna. His remains were found nearly a week later.

PFC Patrick McEnery KIA Korea 1951

#OnThisDay 1951 PFC Patrick McEnery from Glin, Limerick was killed in action during the fighting with Chinese Communist Forces at the hill near Nodong-Ni, North Korea. McEnery had enlisted from Illinois. His remains were never recovered.

The Lisnagaul Ambush, Tipperary 1920

#OnThisDay 1920 Dinny Lacey & the 3rd Tipperary Brigade ambushed an RIC patrol en route to a rifle range outside Tipperary town. Four RIC were killed and four wounded. Arms & ammunition was captured & the truck carrying the police was set ablaze.
