#OnThisDay 1877 Tom Crean, the Antarctic explorer was born near Annascaul, Kerry. Crean joined the Royal Navy & rose through the ranks before volunteering for the first of three Antarctic expeditions, most famously with Kildare born Ernest Shackleton in 1914-17.
