#OnThisDay 1887 John Roach the shipping magnate from Cork died. Roach moved to New York at 16, worked in a shipping yard & made his way up. He supplied the Union Navy during the Civil War & eventually owned the largest shipbuilding company in America.

I'm David, I'm from Ireland. I am an avid fan of history. I have my B.A. in History, my M.A. in Military History and Strategic Studies,a Post Qualification Diploma in History and I've been teaching History for five years now.
