#OnThisDay 1805 Presley O’Bannon, an Irish-American Marine led a successful attack on Derna, Libya. O’Bannon was the first man to raise the US flag on foreign soil in wartime. This action gave the Marines Corps ‘ Hymn the line “to the shores of Tripoli.”
