#OnThisDay 1862 Brig. Gen. James Shields from Tyrone defeated Confederate General Stonewall Jackson at the Battle of Kernstown. Shields’s force outnumbered Jackson’s 2:1. Although wounded, Shields’s men under Col. Kimball drove the Confederates from the field.
