#OnThisDay 2002 Thomas Shaw from Belfast, the last WW1 veteran from the island of Ireland passed away. In 1916 Shaw joined the Royal Irish Rifles at 15. Shaw missed the Somme as his brother, an MP, found him & sent him home but he rejoined the Rifles & fought at Ypres, Messines and other major battles.
