#OnThisDay 1921 Six British soldiers are shot dead around Cork City in retaliation for the six IRA volunteers executed that morning. Five more were shot but lived. The dead were:
- Private Whitear
- Signalman G H Bowden
- Private T Wise
- Private W A Gill (Picture)
- Lance Corporal J E L G Beattie
- L/Corporal L D Hodnett
The other five wounded soldiers shot that night around the city were:
- Pte V Price
- Pte S Bettesworth/Beatresworth/Bottesworth
- Pte G Rollason,
- Pte E Hill
- L/Cpl R A Pike
