#OnThisDay 1923 Michael Fitzgerald was executed by the Free State Army for possession of a weapon. Fitzgerald, from Youghal, had been a Quartermaster in the US Merchant Marine & served in the Royal Navy during #WW1. He also had a 1917-1923 Service Medal for his time in the IRA. Despite this his mother’s claim for his pension in 1953 & 1960 were refused as they claimed he was not a member of the Pre-Truce IRA.

Hi,
I'm David, I'm from Ireland. I am an avid fan of history. I have my B.A. in History, my M.A. in Military History and Strategic Studies,a Post Qualification Diploma in History and I've been teaching History for five years now.
I wanted to create a podcast that examines, in great detail, major Irish battles and battles allover the world in various wars that Irish people played a significant part in.
Hope you enjoy.
