#OnThisDay 1895 William “Billy” McFadzean was born in Armagh. Billy was awarded the Victory Cross posthumously in the first days of the Somme 1916 for saving his comrades lives when he jumped on a box of grenades that had fallen into a trench with the pins detached. Billy’s father accepted the award in his stead.
