Free State unofficial executions 1922

#OnThisDay 1922 Three teenage boys, (16, 17& 17) were found dead at Red Cow in Clondalkin. They had been arrested the day before for putting up Anti-Treaty posters, were arrested & interrogated by Charlie Dalton (Ex-Squad member and brother to Emmet Dalton) in Wellington Barracks, released but never seen alive again.

Hughes and Holohan had been shot twice in the head and chest, the other, Rogers, who seems to have tried to get away, was riddled with bullets, shot more than 16 times.

The deceased were:

  • Edwin Hughes aged 17, 107 Clonliffe Road Drumcondra, County Dublin.
  • Brendan Holohan aged 17, 49 Patrick’s Road Drumcondra County Dublin.
  • Joseph Rogers aged 16, 2 St. Brigid’s Road Drumcondra, County Dublin.
