#OnThisDay 1922 Anti-Treaty IRA ambushed a Free-State patrol at Dooney Rock, Sligo killing four & capturing the ‘Ballinalee’ armoured car. They duly renamed it ‘The Lough Gill’ (seen below with driver C.McLynn )& used it to fire upon Free State positions in Sligo town.
