#OnThisDay 1921 Private Smith of the Devonshire Regiment was shot in the head & died while transporting the dead body of an RIC constable in Carrick-on-Suir, Tipperary. The Regiment fought back their assailants (IRA), who disappeared into the local countryside. #Ireland #History
