#OnThisDay 1921 Constable William Mitchell, a Black and Tan was hanged in Mountjoy Square for his part in the murder of a magistrate, Robert Dixon JP in Dunlavin, Wicklow. Mitchell did not shoot the magistrate, the man responsible shot himself the next morning. Mitchell was an accomplice. He was the only Black & Tan to be executed by Britain during the War of Independence. #Ireland #History
